The Huchuy Qosqo Trek offers an exhilarating journey through the lesser-traveled trails of the Sacred Valley, showcasing dramatic Andean scenery and rich cultural heritage. Starting from the charming town of Cusco, the trek takes you through picturesque highlands and ancient Inca pathways, leading to the fascinating Huchuy Qosqo archaeological site perched above the valley. As you hike, you’ll experience stunning panoramas of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and traditional Andean villages, culminating in a visit to the remote and historic ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, where you’ll gain insights into the Inca civilization and enjoy an immersive outdoor adventure.
We start with a 5:00 am pickup from your hotel and transfer to Tambomachay. From there, we embark on a hike through high-altitude puna landscapes, reaching the Sicllaccasa Pass (4020m). Our trail takes us through the Ccauca Gorge, where we’ll see ancient ruins and local crops like tarwi, as well as abundant cacti. We’ll continue to the Queullococha Pass (4185m), offering stunning views of peaks like La Veronica, Pitusiray, and Chicon. Passing by the lake Queullococha, we may spot local wildlife before climbing to the Challu Challu Pass (4220m). From here, we’ll enjoy views of the Chinchero plains and nearby lakes, then ascend to the Rumicruz Pass (4230m) and explore the Inca rock quarry (4220m). We’ll descend to the village of Pucamarca (4010m) in the afternoon, where we’ll have dinner and camp overnight.
After breakfast, we head to Huchuy Qosqo, where we’ll encounter ancient Inca bridges and pathways in a canyon surrounded by impressive rock formations. Huchuy Qosqo features significant Inca ceremonial structures and offers panoramic views of the Sacred Valley and Vilcanota River. After a guided tour and some free time to explore, we descend to Lamay for lunch. We then travel to Ollantaytambo by transport, catch the train to Aguas Calientes, and spend the night in a comfortable hostel.
We start early, around 4:30 am, to hike to Machu Picchu, with options to walk and watch the sunrise or take a bus. At Machu Picchu, we meet our guide for a 2-hour tour and have free time to explore additional sites like the Inca Bridge and the Sun Gate. Afterward, we descend to Aguas Calientes, board the train to Ollantaytambo, and then return to Cusco by bus.
