Huchuy Qosqo 2 Days
2 DAYS Huchuy Qosqo Trek Embark on a transformative journey…
The Choquequirao Trek is a captivating 4-day adventure through the dramatic and diverse landscapes of the Peruvian Andes, leading you to the remote and awe-inspiring ruins of Choquequirao. Known as the “Sister City” of Machu Picchu, this trek offers an immersive experience of ancient Inca history, lush cloud forests, and stunning mountain vistas. Along the way, you’ll traverse challenging terrain, encounter diverse flora and fauna, and explore the extensive archaeological site of Choquequirao, which remains less-visited and untouched compared to other Inca sites. This trek promises a rewarding blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty, culminating in a memorable encounter with one of Peru’s hidden gems.
Depart from Cusco around 5:00 am and arrive in Cachora after approximately 4 hours. Upon arrival, our team will prepare the mules and horses for the trek. We’ll start our hike with views of the majestic Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora snow-capped peaks, and descend through varying landscapes from cliffs to snowy mountains. We’ll see the Apurimac Canyon, one of the world’s deepest canyons, and reach Capuliyoc for lunch. The trek includes stops at small villages like La Colmena, Cocamasana, and Mirador de Capuliyoc, ending at our campsite in Chiquisca, a wooded area where we’ll rest and prepare for the next day’s hike.
After a nutritious breakfast, we’ll trek to Playa Rosalina and then climb to our campsite at Marampata, surrounded by lush flora. Enjoy lunch and continue to the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex for a guided tour of its Inca ruins, including houses and terraces, and potentially spot condors (weather permitting). Choquequirao, known as “the last refuge of the Inca State,” was first explored in 1710. We’ll camp and have dinner at Marampata.
After breakfast, we’ll begin our return hike to Chiquisca, passing through the Apurimac Canyon with its impressive vegetation, flowers, and orchids. The trek takes about 6 hours, covering elevations from 3033 to 1950 meters above sea level. We’ll pass through several small villages and enjoy lunch at the river before arriving back at Chiquisca for the night, dinner, and stargazing.
Early breakfast at 6:00 am, then hike back to Cachora, enjoying views of the Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora peaks along with the Apurimac Canyon. The return trek takes around 6 hours. After arriving in Cachora, we’ll travel back to Cusco, arriving approximately at 9:00 pm.
