2 DAYS Huchuy Qosqo Trek Embark on a transformative journey…
Puerto Maldonado, situated in southeastern Peru’s Madre de Dios department, is renowned as the “biodiversity capital” due to its location near the Amazon rainforest. Nearby Tambopata, located about 45 km southeast, is a key area for biodiversity conservation. The Tambopata National Reserve, a major tourist attraction, offers diverse flora and fauna, hiking opportunities, visits to lakes and rivers, and insights into local communities.
Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal, you’ll be transferred for registration and then to the port captaincy for a one-hour boat ride to the lodge. After checking in and settling into your room, enjoy a refreshing fruit juice and a two-hour guided walk through the tropical forest, where you’ll discover ancient trees and diverse wildlife such as toucans, macaws, and monkeys. In the evening, search for white caimans on the Madre de Dios River and possibly spot capybaras. Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast, we will embark on a 3 km walk through the tropical forest to Lake Sandoval, a large lake within the Tambopata National Reserve. A paddle boat ride will offer views of various birds and monkeys, including rare species like giant otters and large caimans. After returning to the lodge for a typical lunch, enjoy an evening night walk to observe insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal wildlife. Dinner and rest follow.
After breakfast, we’ll trek 3 km through the tropical forest to Lake Sandoval, famous for its piranhas. A paddle boat ride will reveal diverse birds and monkeys, with potential sightings of giant otters and large caimans. After lunch at the lodge, enjoy a night walk to explore insects, amphibians, and nocturnal wildlife. At 5:30 a.m., experience the Canopy walkway, offering panoramic views of the Madre de Dios River and birdwatching opportunities from 30 meters high. Return to the city after breakfast for transportation to the airport or bus station.
